Alanna has been working with recycled metal since 1991 – upcycled tin cans into fish sculpture. Using recycled household waste to create sculpture, she redefines the art of recycling. Bean cans, catfood lids, and scrap copper roofing are among the materials found in her workshop.
Although formally trained as a potter, Alanna began exploring fish in a new media in response to a call for entry from the Museum of Civilization in 1991 for a weathervane competition. The first fish sculpture titled “Starkist Gold – t’ain’t no tuna here” attracted much attention and spawned a large body of work over the past 21 years.
